Mid Canterbury TimeBank

Rest easy Maz

Our much loved TimeBank member Maz (Marion) Bartlett (aged 50) passed away peacefully at home on Thursday morning, surrounded by her whānau. We send our love and thoughts to them in this tough time.
Maz has been part of the TimeBank since its inception - there at the Event Centre when the idea for a timebank was first raised, helped at our opening in 2017 and a number of other social and community events since. She attended camps & parties, as well as a number of learning events we ran - polymer clay making, flax weaving, hydroponics and astronomy.
The flax weaving wānanga helped seed in Maz a deep passion for weaving and for looking after harakeke. Maz also just loved the 'Guided Tour of the Universe' astronomy events - which she attended at least 3 times! Her passing on the eve of Matariki seems fitting given her love of the stars.
In the early days of the TimeBank before we had any funding Maz suggested we do a scrap metal fundraiser - she singlehandedly organised and ran this very successfully- driving all over the district collecting scrap metal from people and taking it to the yard to turn it into $ for the TimeBank. She was one of those people that had an idea and then got to work making it happen, often behind the scenes, a real do-er.
During the scrap metal fundraiser Maz ended up visiting one or two places that actually didn't have much in the way of scrap metal as it turned out... but instead garages full of things their elderly widowed owners didn't know what to do with. Instead of driving on, Maz spent time with these women, sorting through things, giving them advice and taking away rubbish. I was struck by her kindness and generosity of spirit.
Maz was an absolutely beautiful human inside and out and she will be missed so very much by so many people.
Moe mai rā, Maz. Fly free.
